Fund - Raising
Fund-raising is a large part of what we do in the Parents' Association. Below are some of the things we do to raise funds for the school.
1. Lenrec Recycling:
We collect old clothes in any condition once they're clean. We get €4 per bag. The bags are collected from the school by Lenrec Recycling.
Clothes can be packed in black bags which are sent out prior to each collection. Please don't overfill the bags as we do get paid per bag. Bags can be left into the school at any time.
2. Cake sales, parties or Non - Uniform days:
These will be held on selected Fridays and children will be asked to bring in 50 cent for a bun or €1 for a non-uniform day. On cake sale days, one class will be asked to bring in buns or cakes to sell to the whole school.

Parents' Report
- The school heating system is working efficiently this year so far; there is no wastage of oil. The landlord controls the settings.
- The Board was presented with the standardised test results for First to Sixth Class from June 2012. The Micra-T results in English showed that 86% of the pupils attained an average or higher score (STEN 4 to 10) and 14% had a lower score (STEN 3 or less). The Sigma-T results in Maths showed that 82% of the pupils attained an average or higher score (STEN 4 to 10) and 18% had a lower score (STEN 3 or less). The teachers analysed these results and are using them to inform the teaching and learning of English and Maths in the current school year.
- The new staffing arrangements have been working well since the change on 5th November.
- The Parents' Association was thanked for their ongoing fund-raising which is contributing hugely to the school's financial health in these difficult economic times.
- The Scholastic Book Fair raised 685 euro of which the school got 274. Combined with money "banked" from the previous Book Fair, the school was able to spend over 400 euro on Scholastic books.
- Board of Management training: the Chairperson, Canon Hewitt and the Principal, Mrs. Solleveld attended a training evening in Bandon for Church of Ireland schools on 24th October. The subject matter was the revised Child Protection guidelines. On 22nd November, the Chairperson, Principal and Board member, Richard Torney attended a Board training evening in Mahon on legal matters pertaining to National Schools.
- Staff CPD (Continuous Professional Development): weekly staff meetings every Thursday, the Principal attended a one-day seminar in Ballincollig on School Self-Evaluation on 19th November, Ms O'Keeffe attended a weekend INTO conference on "Wellness in the Classroom for Pupils and Teachers" in Galway in November, Mrs. Solleveld attended an evening workshop on Maths in the CESC (Cork Education Support Centre) on 28th November and Mrs. Pedley attended a one-day workshop in Charleville on 5th December, the subject being: "Puberty, Sexuality and the Autistic Spectrum".

Treasurer's Report
- Balance of account as at 01/05/12: 1600 euro
- Projected income up to end June 2012:
Quiz Night 200 euro
Green Bags collection 200 euro
Lottery income May & June 12 200 euro
- Expenditure up to end June 2012
Lottery prize money for
May and June 180 euro
- Estimate of total income by end June 2012 2020 euro
Money raised so far this year has been incredible, especially given the current economic situation. A big "Thank You" goes out to everyone who has contributed and continues to do so. If we continue to receive approximately 100 euro each month for the Lotto, profit overall by the end of June will be 900 euro.
I am hoping that, with a bit of a push to promote the last two months of the Lotto and by really advertising the Quiz Night (25th May) as much as we can, the target of 2,000 euro that was agreed at the PA and Board of Management meeting in March might be exceeded.
This would be wonderful as the 2,000 euro agreed to be used by the school for heating kerosene for next winter can be handed over at the end of this term and hopefully there will be a small amount left that we can build on from next term onwards.
